Giovanni Nadiani was born 1954 in Cotignola (Ravenna) – Italy and lives in Faenza as a writer and a translator.
As a poet and a writer he has published eight collections of poems, four CDs with narrative poems and music in collaboration with the blues-jazz band Faxtet, four volumes of very short stories and many theatre plays, monologues and dialogues for cabaret (also on CDs) as well. He was awarded prestigious literary prizes (Premio “Pascoli”, “Marin”, “Noventa” etc.) and bursaries. His poems and stories are included in anthologies in Italy and abroad.
As a translator he has translated many contemporary German, Dutch, Spanish poets and storytellers as well as edited numerous anthologies. In 1999 he was awarded the “Saint Jerome-Prize” by the Italian Association of Professional Translators and Interpreters.
After a Degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Bologna and a PhD in Translation Studies at the same university he has taught contemporary German language and Literature at the University of Modena and translation from German at The Advanced School for Interpreters and Translators of the Universities of Trieste and Bologna at Forlì where he is a research associate in German Language and Translation. His special interests are in translation theory, multimedia translation, minority languages and text genres. In these fields he has published monographs, articles and essays.
He is editor-in-chief of the Italian online-journal for translation studies “inTRAlinea” (www.intralinea.it) and since 1985 of the magazine for literature and graphics “Tratti”.
